Up for sale is a gorgeous hand-blown New Jersey blob soda or mineral water bottle dating to the 1870s or early 1880s. Its a good example of this very late type of squat / pony soda shape, what might be called a "steamer soda" elsewhere, a relatively small cylindrical form with only a slight shoulder and pretty short neck. Its a pleasant blue aquamarine color. Its embossed in a round slug plate low on the body with "PETER RICE / 18 / PATERSON / ST / PATERSON N.J." with no other embossing. It has got an applied round blob lip retaining most of its original wire/metal Putnam closure, completely rusted and not swinging, missing just the part that would anchor it to the neck, so its spinning freely. Its around 7 1/2" tall (without counting the closure), and a bit under 2 1/4" in diameter at the base.

It is remarkably in almost unused condition, which is not something I say lightly - it was never buried and has no stain, sparkly inside and out, with no damage besides the slightest pair of adjacent nicks to the heel. Tough to spot, and easy to overlook, given that it has no other damage or even case wear. A great sparkly blob with good orange peel glass texture... Satisfaction guaranteed, if youre not in love after handling it in person Im happy to accept returns.
