Condition:Hardcovers, in beautiful red leather with gilt decoration and blind-stamping on the covers, raised bands and gilt on the spines (though very faded and barely legible titles), and bright gilt page edges. Cover board edges are worn/rubbed, covers minor to moderate surface wear, the most noticeable to the back of the final volume (see photo). Front blank pages have a previous owners name written in pencil. Front inside covers have the initial "P.", who I would guess to the earlier owner. The inside cover of Volume 1 has some presumably old bookdealers pencil notations, as well as a tiny bookdealer/binders ticket for "Coombs & Oatridge, Worcester" in the upper corner. The interiors are otherwise unmarked. There is minimal to somewhat moderate discoloration/foxing found throughout the books: the many illustrations lack tissue guards, and have darkened or ghosted onto the facing pages. Bindings remain nice and secure.
Overall a lovely set to display and to read, and to enjoy the many illustrations from these Regency era books. Discover England as Jane Austen would have known it.
