A collection complete in six volumes of this extensive autobiographical work by Augustus Hare. The first edition, published between 1896 and 1900.
Hare was an English author and raconteur; in his autobiography, he expresses the hardships of being an adopted child and the devotion to his adoptive mother Maria, as well as a great sorrow concerning his home education at Buckwell Place. A majority of his work includes the biographies of members and connections of his family, and descriptive and historical accounts of various countries and cities.
Telling of the authors life from a personal perspective, with particular focus on his childhood, his time in Oxford and abroad, and his home life and relationship with his mother.
Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume and illustrations in text throughout, as well as thirty full page plates. Collated, complete.
CONDITION
In the original publishers full cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, lightly bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities. Minor damp mark to front board vol. V. Minor staining mark to outer margin pp. 225-240 vol I, affecting a leaf of plates in particular. Internally, firmly bound. Odd light spotting to occasional leaf, pages otherwise bright and clean. Occasional leaf unopened.
